WWE Hall of Famer reveals Sycho Sid gave him a tip after squash match – TJR Wrestling

Sycho Sid did his best to help a young star long before he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

On August 26, it was announced that Sid Eudy, better known to wrestling fans as Sycho Sid and Sid Vicious, passed away after a battle with cancer. Eudy was 63 years old.

Since news of his death broke, current and former wrestlers have lined up to share their memories of the star who touched the lives of so many people.

As social media was flooded with a wave of love and respect, a clip from a February 2024 interview with Rob Van Dam was widely shared.

Speaking to Wrestling Shoot Interviews, Van Dam recalled teaming with Scott Casey to face Sid in a match on The Wrestling Challenge in March 1992. At the time, Van Dam had only been wrestling for two years, but that didn’t stop Sid from expressing his appreciation for his work.

“Anyway, I had the match and I have to tell you my memories of it. I knew Bruno [Harvey Wippleman] was his manager and I knew Bruno from the Memphis days, that was my introduction. He introduced me to Sid before the game and everything, I think maybe that’s why Sid was so cool, I don’t know.

After the fight, Sid came up to me and said, “Hey brother, I really appreciate what you did there and how you did your job. I know it’s not cool to get beat like that, but what you did helped me and got me from here to here. That’s where I want to go because I want to wrestle Hulk Hogan.”

Van Dam added that Sid did indeed give him a $20 tip as a thank you. He couldn’t remember anyone else doing that.

“He said, ‘I really appreciate what you did,’ and then he gave me $20. He said, ‘I know that’s not much, but hopefully it helps you out a little bit.’ Scott Casey told me he did the same thing for him, and I can’t remember another wrestler ever tipping me that much in my career. So that was amazing, super cool.”

Sycho Sid’s son thanks fans for their support

Meanwhile, Gunnar Eudy paid tribute to his late father in a short statement on social media.

He wrote that despite being diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin lymphoma in April 2021, his father continued to live his life to the fullest and left behind a legacy of “strength and determination.” Gunnar then thanked his fans for their supportive messages.
