Georgia farmer breaks his soybean yield record

The national soybean yield record holder has exceeded the 200 bushels per acre mark for two years in a row.

Alex Harrell runs a farm in southwest Georgia and broke the soybean yield record in 2023 with 206 bushels per acre.

“And this year we were able to break the 218 mark by Pioneer Z-Serie (soybeans).”

Speaking to Brownfield Tuesday at the Farm Progress Show near Boone, Iowa, he said the record beans were planted March 21 and survived a period of drought from late May to June.

“We had no rain and a heat index of 40 degrees for four or five weeks, but fortunately the bloom was well underway and we had the kernels full. That was pretty damaging to our corn crop, but with the soybeans we had the kernels full and that actually helped us.”
