Gable Steveson is released from his contract with the NFL Buffalo Bills just months after signing

Gable Steveson’s time with the Buffalo Bills is over.

Despite the huge fanfare when he signed a NIL contract with WWE in 2021, Gable Steveson only had one televised bout in the company when he faced Baron Corbin at the 2023 edition of the NXT Great American Bash. Since then, he has competed in a number of NXT live events and a handful of dark matches, but has not been seen in the company after his dark match against Cedric Alexander on February 9.

On May 4, it was announced that Gable Steveson was released from his WWE contract. Most of the release announcements were made on May 3 and included Drew Gulak, Valentina Feroz and Boa.

In May, Steveson signed a three-year NFL rookie contract with the Buffalo Bills, switching from wrestling to football. The news came after reports emerged that several NFL teams had contacted the star.

Is Gable Steveson’s NFL career over?

However, according to a report from NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the NFL decided to release the star on August 27. Garofalo notes that Steveson could still join a practice squad after this round of roster cuts.

The report also mentions that Steveson played his first football game in the Buffalo Bills’ season opener. His performance was not bad, as he played 14 snaps and recorded one tackle and one QB pressure. Steveson played in all three of the Bills’ preseason games and recorded three tackles and two QB hits.

Steveson has yet to comment on his release and speculation about his future is once again in full swing. The star could join another NFL team, likely as part of a training squad, or he could try his hand at MMA, as he has hinted in the past.
