Chicago sets temperature record, hottest day of 2024 – NBC Chicago

The city of Chicago is experiencing one of the hottest days in recent history, and August 27 will go down in the record books as one of those days.

According to the National Weather Service, the temperature at O’Hare International Airport reached 98 degrees on Tuesday afternoon, setting a daily record.

According to official figures, this record had previously stood for 51 years and was last broken in 1973.

Additionally, the 98 degrees is the highest temperature the city has experienced so far this year, surpassing the high of 97 degrees on June 17.

According to Kevin Jeanes, meteorologist with NBC 5’s Storm Team, this is the latest reading of 98 degrees or more in the city since 1985.

At 2 p.m., the heat index at O’Hare was 115 degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity made it even worse for those outdoors.
