Ashland man gets 50 years in prison for knife murder in 2021

An Ashland man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after being found guilty of murder by stabbing in 2021.

A jury convicted Robin Morales-Sanchez in July of manslaughter, assault and two counts of armed criminal action.

On Tuesday, he received 15 years for the manslaughter, 15 years for one count of armed criminal action, 10 years for the other and 10 years for the assault.

According to court documents, on July 30, 2021, Morales-Sanchez got into an argument with 47-year-old Moises Hernandez-Sanchez and another victim in the backyard of his home.

Morales-Sanchez punched one of the victims in the face.

When Hernandez-Sanchez tried to defend himself, Morales-Sanchez stabbed him in the stomach.

Hernandez-Sanchez ran into the house, where Morales-Sanchez continued to stab him.

A woman from Jefferson City helped Morales-Sanchez escape to Kansas, where both were arrested a few days later.
