On this page:

Pokémon Go Max Out End Date: When does the Max Out season end?

Max Out starts on Tuesday, September 3rd at 10am (local time) and will Ends on Wednesday, December 3, at 10 a.m. (local time). During this period, the 20th season of the Go Battle League will also be running, featuring three leagues and a number of special cups.

This release date represents a change from Pokémon Go’s traditional season start, which usually occurs on the first day of each month. This is most likely due to September 1st falling on a Sunday this year. Be sure to take this change into account when planning your Pokémon Go activities!

Maximize the bonuses in Pokémon Go

The Max Out Season Bonuses start with three XP-based bonuses: you’ll get more XP for completing the seven-day PokéStop Spin and Pokémon Catch Streaks, and more XP for increasing your Friendship Level with a player, the latter of which is perfect for anyone who reaches the Best Friend Level during Max Out!

In addition, there are two trading-based bonuses: everyone gets an extra Candy when trading Pokémon, and Trainers level 31 or higher are guaranteed a Candy XL when trading.

Finally, from Tuesday, September 3rd to Wednesday, December 3rd, you can obtain the following Pokémon through Research Breakthroughs: Galarian Weezing, Galarian Mr. Mime, Excadrill, Scraggy, Furfrou, and Jangmo-o.

Max Out Roadmap in Pokémon Go

The big release of Max Out is, as the name suggests, the release of Dynamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go on Tuesday, September 10 at 10am (local time). While details aren’t fully confirmed at the time of writing, we do know that locations called Power Spots will appear on the map. Here you can battle Dynamax Pokémon in Max Battles and collect Max Motes. (I wonder what these are used for, as suspicious as Mega Energy…)

According to the official Pokémon Go blog, these Power Spots will actually appear before the actual release of Dynamax Pokémon, giving you the opportunity to start collecting Max Motes before your first Max Battle!

What we do know is that Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Skwovet, and Wooloo will make their debut in their Dynamax forms in One-Star Max Battles on Tuesday, September 10th.

Stonjourner will be available regionally exclusively in the UK.

In addition to Dynamax Pokémon, Max Out marks the first proper Gen 8 release in Pokémon Go! While we’ve seen some Gen 8 Pokémon in the past like Wooloo, Galarian forms, and their evolutions like Sirfetch’d, this generation’s release has been slow. In fact, Regieleki was the last Gen 8 Pokémon to debut in Pokémon Go in April 2023. Soon, however, you’ll be able to catch Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble, and Dreepy in Pokémon Go! Players in the UK will also be able to catch the regionally exclusive Stonjourner! Hopefully, we’ll see more Gen 8 Pokémon in Pokémon Go as Max Out continues.

To celebrate this release, a new Special Research quest will be released on Tuesday, September 3rd, which will require you to choose one of the Galar starter Pokémon – Grookey, Scorbunny, or Memmeon. As you can probably guess, this is a branching quest, so make your choice wisely! Your choice will also change the background of your postcard book for the rest of Max Out, which is a nice little bonus. (Though I’d prefer a special sticker book, Niantic…)

Now that we’ve got these overarching seasonal themes out of the way, let’s take a look at the first events running during Max Out.

Here is an overview of all Max Out events confirmed so far:

  • GO ALL OUT – Tuesday, September 3 to Tuesday, September 10
  • Ponyta and Galarian Ponyta Community Day – Saturday, September 14
  • Go big – Tuesday, 10 September to Sunday, 15 September
  • Community Day in October – Saturday, September 5
  • Community Day in November – Sunday, November 10

As you can see, some of the Community Days are still waiting to announce their featured Pokémon. You can also participate in Season 20 of the Go Battle League this season.

Max Out starts with GO All Out – runs from Tuesday, September 3rd, 10:00 am (local time) to Tuesday, September 10th, 10:00 am (local time). This event marks the release of Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble, Dreepy, all their evolutions, and Stonjourner for UK players. Alongside this, you can start the Special Research quest mentioned above, complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks and gathering challenges, and participate in PokéStop showcases. There are also double XP bonuses for catching and evolving Pokémon that run during this event.

As mentioned, this event will see the one-star Max Battle debut for Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Skwovet, and Wooloo. They can also complete another Special Research mission to obtain Max Particles and a new Avatar item, the Dynamax Ribbon. There will also be event-exclusive research tasks, collection challenges, a double PokéStop Spin XP bonus, and a double Max Battle gain XP bonus.

What are seasons in Pokémon Go?

Originally introduced in December 2021, seasons are periods of time in the game that last three months and combine various events with a theme. During this time, a selection of new features and quality of life changes can also be added to Pokémon Go.

These include:

  • Pokémon appearances vary from season to season, meaning certain creatures may appear more regularly for limited periods of time, or appear less frequently in the wild.
  • Changes to egg pools and raids.
  • Special spawning for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, coinciding with the actual season.
  • Highlight certain Mega Evolutions and give them a power boost over the course of the season.
  • Different deerling shapes.
  • A new Go Battle League season that will be as long as the season itself.
  • XP boosts for completing certain activities, such as five-star raids.
  • Introduce other general quality of life improvements.
  • A series of events in the game.
  • New Pokemon.
  • Occasional new features and season-long research quests.

I hope you’re ready to expand during Max Out!
