Overview of the 2025 PGA TOUR schedule

There are some new sponsors who have agreed to financially support some events, but ultimately the changes to the 2025 PGA TOUR schedule are relatively minor compared to the upheaval of recent years. The season’s 39 events include a mix of classic tournaments that have been around for decades and some solid international tournaments as well. The schedule includes both regular season and FedExCup playoff events.

The 2025 season will again feature eight more signature events that are sure to attract plenty of attention. These signature events offer fans the opportunity to see the top golfers in action as they compete in the strongest fields outside of the majors.

All events and season start in the 2025 PGA TOUR calendar

The Sentry marks the start of the 2025 PGA TOUR season. Here Jason Day tees off at the 18th hole of the Plantation Course in Kapalua during the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The 2025 FedExCup season will feature a total of 39 events, a number some critics say is too many. But it’s hard to argue with the huge benefits – financial and entertainment-wise – that the TOUR provides to its local communities. When the FedExCup Playoffs mandated that the fall series events mark the start of each new season, the change only confused golf fans. Things have drifted back to where they belong, and the Sentry Tournament in Hawaii has taken its rightful place as the start of the 2025 season, taking place Jan. 2-5. A $20 million purse sets high stakes from the start, but the pressure is minimal because there is no cut and every player is guaranteed some money in their pocket.

Signature events and eligibility

The 2025 season will culminate in eight signature events designed to attract the world’s best golfers. The eight signature events on the 2025 PGA TOUR calendar include The Sentry, The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Genesis Invitational, The Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, Truist Championship, The Travelers Championship and the Memorial.

The FedExCup rankings determine the eligibility of the 72 players who tee off at each of these events. Five of the eight events have no cuts. Love it or hate it, it ensures that fans will see the best players on all four days. The Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday are the three tournaments that have a cut after 36 holes. Personally, I find it hard to imagine these tournaments without a cut. And last but not least, to no one’s surprise, Tiger Woods was even given special permission to play all eight signature events.

Analysis of the venues of the major championships in 2025

Following the Masters tournament from April 10-13, the US Open, PGA Championship and The Open will be played on different golf courses compared to 2024, returning to high-profile venues that will be familiar to fans.

Quail Hollow - Hole 14
The 14th hole at Quail Hollow is a strong par 4.

The PGA Championship returns to Quail Hollow May 15-18. This will force Quail Hollow’s normal TOUR stop – currently sponsored by Truist – to move to the Philadelphia Cricket Club for a season this year.

    Oakmont Country Club
Golf fans will see a lot of Oakmont over the next 30 years as it serves as the foundation for the future U.S. Open schedule.

The US Open at the historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, on Father’s Day weekend in June will be an exciting event. Dustin Johnson won the last US Open at Oakmont, one of the most difficult golf courses in the world.

148th Open Championship - Day four
Ireland’s Shane Lowry plays his tee shot on the 16th hole during the final round of the 148th Open Championship on the Dunluce Links at Royal Portrush Golf Club.

The Open Championship returns to the Dunluce Course at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland from July 17-20. Irishman Shane Lowrey won in Portrush in 2019. For Rory McIlroy, who grew up in nearby Hollywood, the tournament will be a homecoming. McIlroy missed the cut last time and is now hoping to make amends.

The FedExCup Playoffs conclude the season with three high-stakes tournaments beginning in August – the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship.

FedEx St. Jude Championship

The FedEx St. Jude Championship will be held August 7-10 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

The BMW Championship moves from the heights of Castle Pines, Colorado to Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, from August 14-17.

The newly renovated East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta will host the TOUR Championship, the season finale, from August 21 to 24. The winner will receive a whopping $25 million in prize money.

The PGA TOUR has expanded beyond the borders of the Americas. The global influence of the 2025 lineup includes Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico and a co-sponsored event with the DP World Tour in Scotland. Let’s take a closer look at each of these locations:

Mexico Open at VidantaWorld

The Mexico Open at VidantaWorld will take place from February 20 to 23 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Set amidst a picturesque coastal landscape, the Mexico Open will be held at VidantaWorld, a huge golf resort on the west coast of Mexico.

The Genesis Scottish Open returns to the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, from July 10-13. It’s a major precursor to the Open Championship, so you can expect a big-name field.

The RBC Canadian Open, scheduled for June 5-8 in Caledon, Ontario, returns to its traditional venue the week before the U.S. Open. The Canadian Open is a long-standing tournament that has graced the PGA Tour since 1904 and is played on the newly renovated North Course of TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, a 54-hole club.
