Miami Dolphins Cutdown Day live tracker

Miami Dolphins Cutdown Day live tracker

We have arrived at one of the most important days in the NFL calendar: Cutdown Day.

The Miami Dolphins and the NFL’s other 31 teams will make a series of roster moves to reach the 53-player limit by 4 p.m. ET. These changes include players being released or terminated, as well as players being transferred or placed on the injured list.

As a guide, players with less than four years of NFL experience will be released and must clear that release by noon Wednesday before they can sign with another team. Veterans with four or more years of experience will be released (or have their contract terminated) and become free agents immediately.

This was the case with the two players the Dolphins released on Sunday, quarterback Mike White and tight end Jody Fortson Jr.

The next step in roster construction will occur on Wednesday, when players released on Tuesday can be claimed before 12:00 p.m. ET. and subsequently founded a 17-man training squad.

Through the end of the third week of the 2024 regular season, the priority order for waiver claims if multiple teams claim a player will be based on the 2024 draft order. This means the Dolphins have the 21st claiming spot and can only claim a player off the waiver list if none of the other 20 teams ahead of them claim that player.

The Dolphins’ roster ended up at 88 players Monday, meaning 35 transactions are needed to reach the 53-man roster limit.

We will track all movements on Tuesday, create a running accounting of transactions and provide links to the reports detailing the movements.

The Dolphins made their first move of the day as part of their offseason UFA signings when they released defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.

The former Dallas Cowboys player signed a fully guaranteed one-year deal worth $1.8 million in March, but missed some time in training camp and never really made an impression.

Other cuts included WR Je’Quan Burton, OL Chasen Hines and OL Matthew Jones.

By midday, the Dolphins only had 73 players on the active roster.

The Dolphins began making a series of changes Tuesday morning, releasing six players at 10:30 a.m. None of these cuts came as a particular surprise.

Based on multiple reports, with special thanks to Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson, the Dolphins have released DT Robert Cooper, WR Mike Harley Jr., WR Jadon Janke, CB Jason Maitre, DT Isaiah Mack and DT Leonard Payne.

Both Payne and Maitre were undrafted rookie free agents who performed well in training camp and should be seriously considered for a practice spot if they make it through the waivers list.

Interestingly, Mack was the first player to sign with the Dolphins in March, and Janke was among the final three players to sign last week, along with RB Anthony McFarland Jr. and LB Dequan Jackson.

With these moves, the Dolphins now have 82 players on the active roster, including the three players Mike McDaniel said Tuesday would move to the reserve/PUP – Bradley Chubb, Isaiah Wynn and Cameron Goode.
