The payment of fighters has long been a sensitive issue in the UFCSeveral well-known fighters have even left the company because of what they consider to be unfair pay.

But UFC veteran Matt Brownwho recently announced his retirement after a historic career, says the blame for the lack of pay raises lies with the fighters, not the company.

Brown says UFC fighters have repeatedly rejected the opportunity to organize and negotiate higher salaries.

“You can hardly expect the UFC to be completely fair in this matter,” Brown said in the last episode of The fighter against the author. “They run a business, and they run it damn well. They’ve done a great job building their company. I think 99 percent of people in their position would do exactly what they did.”

“Is that why it’s right? Everyone has to decide that for themselves. I think it’s just a lot more complex than people think.”

Matt Brown says UFC fighters are afraid to compete against the company

Brown says the fighters know the UFC is only interested in maximizing profits, but he claims the fighters have not held the company accountable or pushed for a collective bargaining agreement for better wages.

“If anyone is responsible for paying the fighters, it’s the fighters – and I’m one of them, at least I used to be,” Brown said. “I’ve never fought the UFC because of my pay. You’ve seen on Instagram, Twitter and in various interviews how the fighters stand up for the UFC.”

“I have never heard of a company where the employees – if you want to call us employees or even subcontractors – would say: ‘I shouldn’t earn more, they pay me exactly the right amount.’ That is just unbelievable to me.”

Brown, who ranks fourth in UFC history with 15 fight wins, says fighters often feel it’s a waste of time to even try to compete against the company.

“Look, I’ve always been happy with how the UFC has treated me, I like them,” he said. “There’s no hatred towards them at all, but if I thought I’d make more by standing up for myself and arguing with them about pay, I would do that in a heartbeat. I’m just wondering if the guys are saying that because we know how much power that has. [UFC] have.

“If you try to fight against [UFC]It only reduces your chances of getting paid more. It only reduces your chances of getting paid more. So of course you advocate for them publicly, even though something in the back of your mind is telling you, “Damn, that’s not really what I want.”
