Harris and Trump campaign teams argue over rules for upcoming debate

SALT LAKE CITY — The Harris and Trump campaign teams appear to be at odds as they prepare for their upcoming ABC debate on Sept. 10.

According to Politico and other national sources, microphone settings are under debate.

Rusty Cannon, co-host of KSL at Night, joined Jeff Caplan’s Afternoon News to discuss the topic. Listen here 👇

“Sources say there is disagreement about whether the microphones will be muted when it is not their turn to speak,” Cannon said.

When former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden agreed to hold the presidential debates on June 27 and September 10, they apparently agreed on rules that included muting microphones.

“Now the tables have turned,” said Cannon. “Apparently [Kamala] Harris’ campaign now wants the microphones to be hot or on when the other person is not speaking.”

According to Politico, hot mics have always been common practice in presidential debates.

“Perhaps Harris’ team believes they can upset Trump. That’s the only reason, in my opinion, that would be such a move for them,” Cannon said.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump will debate on September 10, airing on ABC.
