Ithaca Police Investigate Assault as Possible Hate Crime

Ithaca police continue to investigate an attack reported early Saturday morning on East State Street near the Ithaca Commons as a possible hate crime after derogatory remarks were made about the victims’ ethnicity during the incident.

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East State Street after a dispute was reported. Upon arrival, police spoke with two victims who reported being physically assaulted by four individuals. The suspects fled the area before police arrived. The victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects are described as two black men and two white men. One black man was wearing a gray sweatshirt and black pants, while the other was wearing blue jeans and a black sweatshirt. One white man was wearing tan pants and a gray shirt, and the other was wearing gray pants and a gray shirt.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Ithaca Police Department. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the department’s website.
