Record heat on Tuesday, humidity rises

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – It’s a First Alert Weather Day as temperatures could reach record highs and the heat index could reach triple digits on Tuesday.

We’ll be guarding records today, as the forecast high temperature of 95° could surpass and match, if not break, the previous record for the highest temperature for this day in Fort Wayne history (96°, set in 1948). Humidity will rise today, bringing the heat index to between 100 and 105° throughout the afternoon and evening. With today’s hot and humid weather, adjust your plans to limit time spent outdoors. Special consideration should be given to extracurricular activities when the heat is at its worst.

Several storms are likely to brew in the region overnight, bringing much-needed rain. Depending on several factors, overnight storms can pose a strong wind threat. It’s a good idea to clear away any loose items outdoors before sunset and keep an eye out for any warnings. Some thunderstorms could linger into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Today: Partly to mostly sunny, very hot and humid; high temperature 95; heat index 100-105; wind SW 5-15, G 20

Tonight: Partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm; low 72; wind SW ~ 5
