Barcelona newcomer could be in the starting line-up against Rayo Vallecano

Barcelona will face Rayo Vallecano in La Liga today. It will be Hansi Flick’s third game in a row. The Catalan club has won both games so far, both 2-1 against Valencia and Athletic Bilbao.

Ahead of the match against Rayo, Barcelona received a huge boost as new summer signing Dani Olmo is set to be registered for La Liga. The 26-year-old has missed the club’s first two matches as the club could not find space to include him in the La Liga squad.

According to SPORT, Dani Olmo could now be in the starting line-up for the first time in his official debut as a Barcelona player. Hansi Flick is expected to nominate him in his line-up against Rayo. The report claims that the German coach would use him instead of Ferran Torres.

Flick has used Ferran as a left winger in the first two games of the season, while Raphinha has played in midfield. Against Rayo, the Brazilian could switch to the left and Olmo could start as number 10.

The report assumes that Flick will field the same formation as against Athletic, with Olmo replacing Ferran being the only expected change. This would mean that Pedri and Bernal will likely continue to play as a double six against Rayo.

Olmo is a natural number 10, unlike Raphinha, and could bring a new attacking dimension to the team. Although the Brazilian has put in two impressive performances in his new role, the Spaniard can offer more creativity on the ball.

The former RB Leipzig player is also a natural finisher and should get into shooting positions in and around the box. He can also swap with Raphinha during the game, as Olmo can also operate well from the left.

The trip to Rayo will likely be the first time Barcelona fans get to see Dani Olmo, and it has taken a long time for the 26-year-old to deliver a great performance on his debut.
