NFL – Kansas City Chiefs: Travis Kelce in low form

In terms of sport, everything is going according to plan for the Kansas City Chiefs. They are 3-0 ahead of Week 4 of the NFL. However, the reigning Super Bowl champions have a problem child in their own ranks: Travis Kelce.

The tight end has 69 yards but hasn’t managed a touchdown yet. He’s the one who’s making the headlines, but there are still a few theories as to why the 34-year-old is barely delivering. One of them: the alleged split from pop star Taylor Swift on September 28th.

Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay has another one. And it’s a pretty clear one.

“Every show I’ve seen in the last few weeks, I thought: Can’t we say he’s out of shape?” McShay said in “Ryen Russillo Podcast”. “That he’s been partying all offseason? That he’s jetting around the world with probably the most famous person in the world, that he’s drinking, going to the US Open, that he’s drinking cocktails.

In fact, Kelce was often photographed spending his free time with his girlfriend Swift. For example, he attended concerts at the Arena in Schalke as part of the pop singer’s tour.

Kelce himself tried to stay cool amidst all the fuss.

“That’s football. I’m not going to sit here and get upset about it,” he said. “I used to get really pissed off and often lost my nerve quickly because I wasn’t as successful as I was supposed to be, because I know that’s what I demand of myself.” I just like playing the game at such a high level that I find it difficult to deal with mediocrity.

McShay, for his part, would love to put a photo from the 2022 preseason and a photo from the 2024 preseason side by side. “They’re hardly the same people,” McShay said. “And everyone’s saying, ‘We need to give him the ball. Why isn’t he part of the offense? The defense is double-covering him.’ The thing is, the key with Kelce is that he gets the same coverage and the same respect – he’s not the same explosiveness that’s slipping a little bit.”
