Here is a recent WNBA story from AP:

NEW YORK (AP) — The Connecticut Sun capped a busy week with a win over New York and a spot in the playoffs.

Marina Mabrey scored 15 points to help the Sun end New York’s eight-game winning streak with a 72-64 victory over the Liberty on Saturday night. That win, along with a loss to Indiana, clinched Connecticut’s postseason berth.

“The playoffs are a whole different season and a whole different caliber,” said DeWanna Bonner, who had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Connecticut. “We’ll deal with it when we’re ready. I don’t think we’re focused on winning, we’re taking it game by game.”

Mabrey, who was signed by the Sun (22-8) shortly before the Olympic break, provided an offensive boost as a substitute. With the win, Connecticut is now 2 1/2 games behind New York and at the top of the WNBA rankings.

“She’s a great player, a great shooter, she spreads the court really well for her. You can’t help her,” said New York defender Sabrina Ionescu. “She provides a different level to the way you come out and defend her because … she has so much appeal.”

It was the Sun’s first win over New York (25-5) this season in four tries. Connecticut was playing the second half of a back-to-back game. The Sun narrowly beat Chicago at home on Friday night and have now won three games in a row. The team also beat Los Angeles in front of a sold-out crowd in Boston earlier this week.

Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Connecticut took control in the third quarter, extending its two-point lead at halftime to seven points by the end of the quarter. The lead grew to 66-53 on a shot by Olivia Nelson-Ododa with 5:45 left. New York scored the next five points but didn’t get any closer.

Things got rough in the final 30 seconds when DiJonai Carrington took offense at a foul by Jaylyn Sherrod. Carrington and Sherrod were assessed double technical fouls on the play.

Ionescu returned for New York after missing the last two games with a neck problem. She struggled on offense, scoring 12 points while shooting 3 of 13 from the field. The Liberty are still without guard Betnijah Laney, who is looking to return from knee surgery just before the Olympic break.

The Liberty took an early lead, but Connecticut stormed back behind Mabrey and took a 40-35 lead late in the first half. The Sun capitalized on poor shooting by the Liberty, who missed 12 of their first 13 three-pointers. They made just 7 of 32 from behind the three-point line.

Ionescu made a deep 3-pointer just before halftime, increasing the score to 40-38 at halftime.

“They controlled the whole game. We didn’t play with the urgency we needed against a good team,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. “There was no activity at the blocking point, and that’s on us. Connecticut is a really good team, and it showed all over the stat sheet.”
