Google surprises Pixel Watch 1 and 2 owners with major software update

Google has launched the Pixel Watch 3 with Wear OS 5. After a few weeks have passed, Google has now started distributing the new software for the two predecessors. It’s worth installing.

Google Pixel Watch 1 and 2 receive major software update

In recent years, Google has launched a matching Pixel smartwatch with every new Pixel smartphone. While the phones have been updated for many years, this is not the case with the Pixel Watches. Here, the update supply is much shorter. It is all the more pleasing that Google brings both the Pixel Watch 1 and the Pixel Watch 2 up to the level of the Pixel Watch 3 (Source: Google).

The Pixel Watch 1 currently runs on WearOS 3.5, while the Pixel Watch 2 is equipped with WearOS 4.0. WearOS 5 is now available for both watches. It’s a major software update that not only brings the version number up to the same level as the Pixel Watch 3, but also directly integrates the September update. This means you’re always up to date.

The update policy for Google’s smartwatches is not really thorough. With the Pixel Watch 1, the company simply skipped the intermediate step to WearOS 4.0What is important now is that WearOS 5 is available for download from the Pixel Watch 3 for the first and second generation. According to Google, distribution will take place over the next few weeks.

What changes with WearOS 5?

With the update to WearOS 5, Google has closed some problems and security gaps on the smartwatches. There are some new features such as the grid view of the app drawer, better control for the phone camera and the pixel recorder function. In addition, Google will provide app updates via the Play Store that bring the existing apps on the watches up to date. Google states that The Pixel Watch 1 and Watch 2 are said to be faster.
