The RunCam Thumb 2 is a new and compact camera that is designed to produce high-quality video recordings. The system can also be mounted on a drone.

Smartphones are probably the primary cameras used by most users these days and, depending on the model, offer very high quality – but in certain situations, an additional, dedicated camera can be advantageous. The RunCam Thumb 2 is one such compact camera for recording videos. The manufacturer uses an IMX586 sensor. This is a 1/2-inch format camera sensor that was introduced years ago. The resolution is specified as 48 megapixels, which means that high-resolution recordings can also be made. According to the manufacturer, the RunCam Thumb 2 makes it possible to record videos with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels at 60 frames per second. However, there is also a limitation: with this resolution and refresh rate, corresponding recordings can only be made for around 10 minutes, after which the sensor or the entire device must cool down. Full HD material can be recorded at 120 frames per second. The optics are also supposed to be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass; with a camera like this, a certain level of protection against scratches and even breakage of the glass is certainly sensible.

According to the manufacturer, the camera, which weighs just 27 grams and measures 26 x 27.5 x 55 millimeters, can also be used on a drone. It can be connected to the flight controller for this purpose; a corresponding cable is also included. The camera can also be controlled via an app and thus remotely; various settings can also be made. The camera can be used with various ND filters – this can be used to reduce the amount of light hitting the camera, which is useful for taking long exposures, for example. The image material is stored on a memory card.

The RunCam Thumb 2 is now available for direct import at a price of around 110 euros, including shipping, and the import details are included in the price. The transaction should be particularly convenient via IOSS.
