1 person and pets killed in mobile home fire in Henderson County

HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – Emergency crews responded to a mobile home fire Monday that killed one person and their pets.

According to a press release from Payne Springs Fire Rescue, emergency crews were called to a structure fire in Cherokee Shores around 6:53 a.m.

When they arrived, firefighters reported seeing a large column of smoke rising from a trailer while a live power line was still burning in the front yard. Firefighters attempted to fight the fire inside and search it, but were forced to back off due to the intense heat.

According to rescue workers, three residents were able to escape, but one person and several pets died.

In addition to the Payne Springs Fire Department, the Gun Barrel City, Eustace, Caney City and Log Cabin fire departments, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, the Henderson County Fire Marshal’s Office, UT Health EMS and the American Red Cross also assisted in the firefighting effort.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Fire Commissioner’s Office.
