Coco Gauff opts for tennis core at the US Open – Essence

Coco Gauff appeared on the first day of the US Open in a stylish cut-out skort dress. Her sky blue New Balance outfit was trendy but also minimalistic. Instead of going for fashion, the tennis expert opted for simplicity while the whole world watched her match against Varvara Gracheva.

The clothing choice Grauff chose was trend-forward but also very much her, straight-up tennis-core look. The top was sky blue with minimal branding and stripes of highlighter yellow and white. The crossover back was all yellow. The skort that was part of the ensemble was the exact shade of blue mentioned earlier. Coco’s headband was a bright shade of yellow. For accessories, she wore a pearl bracelet, a silver pair of earrings, and a silver necklace with an Olympic motif.

The colorful New Balance Coco CG2 shoe made its debut on the tennis court during her hard-fought singles victory at the US Open. Its details are unmatched: there are nods to Grauff and pops of color that are exciting for a tennis shoe for the bold. I love that the shoe includes her initials and a little homage to the Statue of Liberty in New York City. In an exclusive statement, Gauff shares insight on the shoe. In particular, she says it reflects where she is in her life right now. “The Coco CG2 has so many design details that represent who I am and where I am in my life right now.”

Gauff’s most recent fashion moments included serving as flag bearer for the United States at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. The tennis icon was reportedly the first female tennis player to do so, and also the youngest player to ever take on the prestigious role. As she carried the flag, she wore a striking white blazer with red and blue stripes by Ralph Lauren, the official sponsor of the U.S. Olympic team.

Underneath the jacket, she wore a navy and white striped shirt and statement jeans. This look was very American, but also a little different from Gauff’s on-court attire. It allowed her to contrast her sports bras and tennis skirts, which are associated with sportswear, and thus establish herself even more firmly in the fashion lexicon.
