MMA legend explains the key factor Tom Aspinall needs to look out for in his fight against Jon Jones after the UK Wrestling tip-off

After Jon Jones mocked Tom Aspinall’s wrestling skills, a UFC icon added fuel to the fire and paved the way for the American to win.

While many are writing off “Bones,” one MMA legend claims that the veteran still has an aces up his sleeve that will give the Englishman something to think about.

Jon Jones makes fun of Tom Aspinall over wrestling clip with rugby star

In an episode of his show “Fight Lab,” Tom Aspinall competed in a playful wrestling match against former rugby star Ugo Monye.

In a huge upset, the former athlete delivered a lot to the UFC star and put everything on the line to cause a huge upset.

Monye attempted a takedown, which Aspinall successfully defended. But then the rugby star pushed the martial arts icon to the ground, what a shock.

Realising he was in a serious fight, Aspinall regained his composure, knocked his opponent to the ground and finished the session in front.

But the footage prompted Jon Jones to post a brutal jibe on social media, tweeting: “Looks like Tom is showing off his incredible UK wrestling.”

“My focus is on Stipe [Miocic]he actually wrestled in Division 1. Best heavyweight of all time right now. Maybe Tom will break Stipe’s record one day. Right now I’m focused on goat stuff.”

Ultimately, Aspinall’s wrestling is probably much better than he showed in this clip. That said, it will still give Jones something to hold onto. For many, a grappling-focused approach may be his only way to win against the Brit.

A UFC fan favorite has stated that the polarizing star will need to capitalize on his wrestling skills if he ever wants to compete and give fans the fight they all want. With that in mind, Aspinall will have to be very careful.

Kenny Florian explains how Jon Jones can beat Tom Aspinall

Since Aspinall can knock anyone he hits unconscious, Kenny Florian insists that Jones must avoid the younger man’s powerful punches by wrestling him to the mat.

In an episode of the Anik and Florian podcast, he said: “I think he would definitely try. He believes, and I think a lot of people believe, that he has to be the better wrestler there.

“So he has to at least prevent Aspinall from knocking him down, and as far as the speed and the danger of the punches, so that you can get out in one punch, Aspinall has got that. I’m not sure Jon Jones has that.”

“Jon Jones is a striker with a lot of volume, an intelligent guy who likes to create variety and outsmart the opponent.”
