The Karnataka High Court dismissed Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging Governor Thawarchand Gehlot’s permission to conduct an inquiry against him.

Following the Karnataka High Court’s ruling against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA scandal, Congress MP and Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor AS Ponnanna on Tuesday said the Governor’s order imposing sanctions remains illegal till the country’s highest court delivers its verdict.

Ponnanna told ANI, “It remains illegal. The governor’s decision to impose sanctions remains illegal until the highest court of the country pronounces its verdict. The route of judicial review is being considered. We are considering what is the best course of action. We are considering our legal options.”

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s permission to conduct an inquiry against him for alleged violations of law in the allotment of land to his wife by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

In its judgment, the single-judge bench of Justice Nagaprasanna said that the penal order for prosecution was not due to any lack of diligence on the part of the Governor.

It is alleged that MUDA has illegally allotted 14 plots in prime locations of Mysuru city to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife. The Supreme Court, in its interim order dated August 19, had granted temporary relief to Siddaramaiah by directing a special court in Bengaluru to stay further proceedings and not to take any hasty action as per the permission granted by the Governor.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said he was not afraid of the BJP-JD(S) conspiracy and would discuss with legal experts and ministers how to counter it.

“They may have been successful in the past but not this time. It is not a prosecution. I will discuss with legal experts and ministers how we can take action against it and take a further decision. We will not be afraid of any conspiracy by the BJP and the JD(S) nor of that of the governor’s office. The people have blessed us. I have their blessings. The leadership and the party leaders are also behind me,” he said.
