Defending champion Jannik Sinner suffered a heavy defeat at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. The world number one will face Nicolas Jarry in his first appearance since his triumph at the US Open and could then face Jan-Lennard Struff. The German, for his part, will open against Stan Wawrinka.

Sinner’s possible quarter-final opponent is Grigor Dimitrov, who will first play against a qualifier. Fourth-seeded Andrey Rublev and Lorenzo Musetti also finished in the top half of the tournament.
