Demand has increased fivefold: This solar trend cannot be stopped

More and more consumers want to generate their own electricity.

(Priwatt)More and more consumers want to generate their own electricity.

The order numbers of a solar system provider show a clear trend. Significantly more customers are now opting for large systems than two years ago.

Solar system provider Priwatt has taken a closer look at its orders from August 2022, 2023 and 2024. In the evaluation, the company divided the orders into classic balcony power plants with one to two modules, large balcony power plants with three to four modules and XL modules and extension sets. Priwatt compared total of 9,000 salesIn just three years, a very clear trend in customer purchasing behavior has emerged.

Consumers want to generate more electricity themselves

In August 2022, small balcony power plants accounted for 100 percent of Priwatt’s orders. In the meantime, however, a different picture is emerging. While the number of large balcony power plants was already accepted in 2023, it seemed to explode regularly this year. Demand has since increased fivefoldso that in August of this year, the large systems accounted for 57 percent of all plug-in solar sets ordered. Last year, the share was 12 percent. Interest in the classic, smaller balcony power plants, on the other hand, fell from 87 percent last year to 37 percent this year.

The demand for extension sets to adapt existing balcony power plants has also increased enormously. Between August 2023 and August 2024, interest in these products increased sixfold. A similar trend can be seen also in the storageIn August 2024, Priwatt sold 47 percent of the complete or extension sets including a storage unit. In the previous year, this share was twelve percent.

The provider cites the reason for the trend as the lower pricesIn addition, the price difference between small and large balcony power plants is no longer so great. According to Priwatt, the feed-in limit of 800 watts that has been permitted since April is also contributing to the increased demand. Kay Theuer, managing director and founder of Priwatt, explains: “We are seeing that interest in purchasing large balcony power plants with three or more modules is increasing more and more.” The flexibility of being able to expand balcony power plants easily and simply is a decisive factor when purchasing for many of our customers. They want to scale their systems in order to use even more of their own solar power and reduce their electricity costs.”
