Will Batman appear in The Penguin? The mystery surrounding Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight solved

Two years ago, Robert Pattinson conquered the big screen for the first time as Gotham’s avenger – and with great success. The Batman, which he led, turned into one of the best superhero blockbusters of the past decade and laid the foundation for a new universe: the Batman’s epic crime saga.

This saga is currently being expanded with its first spin-off series: The Penguin takes us back to the rainy streets of the crime-ridden city. Colin Farrell tried to die as Oswald “Oz” Cobb Power underground and plays the powerful mafia families off against each other, sometimes more, sometimes less successfully.

Is Robert Pattinson’s Batman in The Penguin?

The short answer: No, Batman does not appear in The Penguin. Robert Pattinson did not film any new scenes. No cameo, no supporting role. No post-credit scene either. The Penguin does without Bruce Wayne at all.

The long answer: Wait, with so much crime, Batman has to be somewhere? Hasn’t he already clashed with Oz and has the villain on his radar since then? Now that the Penguin is gaining power and influence, all alarm bells should be ringing for the Dark Knight. Something isn’t right, is it?

Opposite Special effects explains showrunner Lauren LeFranc:

I understand why people want Batman or think that if Batman is not in a series or a film, he doesn’t have the same impact. I think the impact is just different: Matt [Reeves’] We experience films through the lens of Batman; you are also high up and looking down on the city. In Oz you are in the streets the city, in the dust, in the dirt and in the grime. He looks up and wants to make his way to the top.

Batman director Matt Reeves adds:

I have the feeling that [die Serie] is an extension of what is essentially already there. We know that the world of Batman is. […] The ghost of Batman is also there. The specter of the Riddler is there. The specter of everything that happened in the last film is there. All of that impacts The Penguin. That’s exactly where we start.

And we actually get to see or at least feel these ghosts in The Penguin. The series takes place seven days after the film and shows us a Gotham that is shaped by the consequences of the Riddler’s Bombings. The streets are under water. There is talk of a Batman on the news.

Theoretically, Batman could be seen somewhere here. However, it is not the only reference to The Batman hidden in The Penguin. Riddler Supporter has crept into the series. The Batman Epic Crime Saga demonstrates its dense narrative: no character or event from the predecessor has been forgotten.
