Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2: Sequel already certain? Saber was bubbling with ideas

After the success of the third-person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, its developer studio Sabre Interactive is thinking about DLCs and a sequel.

Within one day of its launch on September 9, 2024, the game had already attracted more than two million players on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S, according to publisher Focus Entertainment.

A complete success

As Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer of Sabre Interactive, tells IGN, Space Marine 2 is the fastest-selling title the former studio head of id Software has ever worked on. And that includes Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein and Rage games.

He also reveals that Space Marine 2’s budget was less than half that of Doom Eternal, the game he worked on at id Software.

And what does the future hold after the success? Perhaps more downloadable content or a sequel: “Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko has suggested some story ideas that could be either a DLC or a sequel,” reveals Willits.

“But at the moment we’re just taking a deep breath. It’s been two weeks out and we need to let it all sink in.”

“But I can say with confidence that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future. It’s just too big a success for that! I know that sounds obvious, but hopefully we can continue to work on Space Marine content for a long time to come.

He is also enthusiastic about a sequel: “We just have to think about it. I would love to do it, yes. Yes, yes, yes! There are so many different factions and other orders that are interesting.”

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was announced at the 2021 Game Awards and was originally scheduled to be released in 2023. However, the game was not planning on being postponed to 2024.
