After heart problems: Tennis star skips tournament

Germany continues to worry about its star player. Health problems have now forced him to take a break.

German tennis star Alexander Zverev decided not to take part in this week’s ATP tournament in Beijing after recurring health problems. The 27-year-old would have been seeded number two in the 500 event behind the Italian Jannik Sinner. It is not clear whether he will take part in the Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai next week as planned. After that, the world number two will have the tournament in the Vienna Stadthalle (October 19 to 27), among other things, on his schedule.

Cough and fever

Zverev once again complained of a cough and fever last week at the Laver Cup in Berlin. The 2021 Olympic champion, who is still waiting for his first Grand Slam tournament victory, has been struggling with minor illnesses all season. Most recently, Zverev also criticized the fact that the tournament calendar is far too full and the season is too long for tennis professionals.
