Three months later, the Winnetka shooting remains unsolved

A Winnetka family is growing frustrated with local police after a burglary attempt in May resulted in dozens of shots being fired outside their Sheridan Road home.

No injuries were reported. the shooting on Memorial Day, May 27, when a suspected burglar and a male homeowner exchanged shots. The case is still under investigation, according to Winnetka police.

In an August 20 email to the Winnetka Police Department, sent by The recording, The homeowner wrote: “There has been no resolution or communication to us of any real progress in this case.”

The woman expressed concern for her safety and that of her family as the alleged perpetrators were “at large”.

Deputy Police Chief Dylan Majcher declined to provide details of the investigation. The recordand said it could “jeopardize the investigation.” However, he reported that the department is reviewing records obtained from “legal orders” related to the case.

In the early morning hours of Memorial Day (May 27), police say a homeowner armed with a gun in the 400 block of Sheridan Road interrupted several people who were trying to steal the family’s cars.

One of the suspects also pulled out a firearm and allegedly shot at the homeowner, who then took cover and returned fire, police said. More than 30 shell casings were recovered at the scene, but police said it was unclear how many were fired by the suspects and the homeowner.

Two of the suspects drove away in a car while the third fled on foot, police said. According to the family, two of the suspects were wearing masks and hoodies.
