Inspired by the world-famous brain researcher Oliver Sacks, the new drama series “Brilliant Minds” is being released today by NBC. Zachary Quinto, known from “Star Trek” and “Heroes”, is in charge.

A new medical series will be broadcast by NBC starting this September. It starts today, Monday, September 23rd in the USA. Inspired by the extraordinary life and work of world-renowned author and physician Oliver Sacks, Brilliant Minds follows a daring neurologist and his team of residents as they explore the last great frontier – the human mind – while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.

The role of Dr. Oliver Wolf goes to Zachary Quinto (Heroes, NOS4A2, American Horror Story). In the first trailer, we see how he takes medication himself in order to empathize with the suffering of his patients.

The protagonist works as a neurologist at the fictional Bronx General Hospital. The series was created by author Michael Grassi, who is also known for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and Riverdale.

Television veteran Mandy Patinkin (Criminal Minds, Homeland, Death and Other Details) has announced her role as a guest star on “Brilliant Minds.” Like Quinto, he will play a respected doctor who causes quite a stir in the hospital. Steve Howey (Shameless) and Tony Award winner André De Shields are also set to appear in patient roles.

The extended ensemble of “Brilliant Minds” also includes Edward Sears (24: Legacy), Tamberla Perry (Suits), Alex MacNicoll (13 Reasons Why), Spence Moore II (We Are Who We Are), Aury Krebs, Donna Murphy (The Gilded Age) and Ashleigh LaThrop (Bones). When and where the US series might land in Germany is still completely unclear at this point…

The series is executive produced by Andy Serkis (“The Lord of the Rings,” “Planet of the Apes”), DeMane Davis (Clarice, Self Made), Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Blindspot), Henrik Bastin (Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, My Generation), Jonathan Cavendish, Leigh London Redman, Melissa Aouate, Sarah Schechter (Superman & Lois) and Will Tennant. The production companies are Fabel Entertainment, The Imaginarium and Warner Bros. Television.
