Alexander Zverev will not play in Beijing

Alexander Zverev will take a longer break after his triumph at the Laver Cup. As was announced on Monday evening, the world number two decided not to take part in the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. The reason for the cancellation is currently unknown.

Zverev again complained of illness at the Laver Cup in Berlin and was visibly struggling physically during his performance. Nevertheless, the German made a decisive contribution to the European selection’s title win on Sunday with his narrow victory over Frances Tiafoe.

As exuberant as Zverev celebrated with his teammate afterwards, he was just as reserved about his further tournament planning in 2024. “I don’t know,” said the 27-year-old, who is not initially in the DTB squad for the Davis Cup finals in Malaga, taciturnly.

Last year, Zverev lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals in Beijing. The German may return to the tour at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai (October 2 to 13). After that, he is scheduled to compete in events in Vienna and Paris, as well as the ATP Finals in Turin.
