Susanna Reid has been heavily criticised by her fans after she became embroiled in a heated debate about the Labour Party’s fundraising row. The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter interviewed newly appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and questioned her about the Prime Minister’s acceptance of staggering amounts of donations over the past five years.

During the popular ITV breakfast show, the presenter sat alongside her co-star Richard Madeley. The duo discussed Kier Starmer accepting generous gifts from wealthy donors. Rachel, 45, admitted she had received thousands of pounds in grant money for clothes that had previously been declared as general office supplies.

Susanna angrily joined the debate, saying: “It smacks of hypocrisy because the Labour Party has pointed the finger at the Tories and said we’re going to be different.” Meanwhile, angry viewers blasted the broadcaster and attacked it on social media.

On X, formerly Twitter, one user wrote: “All MPs get freebies, just like Susanna and Richard get freebies for being who they are! It’s part of their job! I don’t mind! What bothers me is that they keep talking about it and don’t focus on the important things that determine the direction this country is heading in!””

Another agreed, saying: “It smacks of hypocrisy, Susanna, to ask how much Rachel Reeves earns. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.” A second chimed in, saying: “Really, Susanna, I want to know what you accept when you’re in the public eye.”

“So let me get this straight… The Chancellor gets £120,000… Susanna gets £1.2 million… You don’t mean she should be doing salary interviews, do you????” said a fourth.

Another continued, adding: “Susanna and Richard, aren’t you now wearing clothes that aren’t yours? And isn’t that because you are regularly in the public spotlight?”

“Would you be willing to buy these clothes so that you can show your best side to the nation? Please think of another topic of conversation.”

In January 2022, it was reported that she had signed a shiny new contract with GMB, reportedly worth £1.1 million.

This came after Susanna and 68-year-old Richard were finally back together after the summer break, as he had taken some more time off.

However, viewers feared that Richard had permanently retired from the show following his recent health problems.

Over the past few weeks, viewers had become accustomed to seeing Ed Balls hosting the show while Richard took time off from his on-screen duties.

At the time, Kate Garraway informed viewers of Richard’s sudden absence, revealing: “If you were expecting to see Richard Madeley here, then I think Richard Madeley was expecting to be here too! He’s not feeling too well this morning, so we’ve got the lovely Sean here, which is fantastic.”
