Mass shooting in Birmingham 5 Points South: $100,000 reward offered; see live updates

UPDATE: The FBI announced Monday that it is offering a $50,000 reward in the case, with Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama matching that reward by an additional $50,000.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton Peeples announced the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Frank Barefield of CrimeStoppers said the reward is the highest they have ever offered. The previous record was $25,000 after the kidnapping of Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney.

The three-year-old was kidnapped from a birthday party in 2019 and later found murdered. Two people were arrested and convicted.

Police also said that 12 of the injured victims of the shooting have already been released from hospitals and another five are still in the hospital.

Police said investigators had received a considerable number of tips.

Birmingham police are expected to provide an update this morning on Saturday night’s mass shooting in Five Points South that left four people dead and 17 others injured.

Police identified the four people killed as Antria Holloman, 21, Tahj Booker, 27, Carlos McCain, 27, and Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr., 26.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case, which Police Chief Scott Thurmond described as an “attack” on one of the four people killed in the shooting.

“We believe that this person was involved in an assassination attempt and that someone was willing to pay money to kill this person,” the police chief said on Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue South as people were waiting in line to get into the Hush hookah and cigar lounge.

The deadly shooting involved more than 100 shots fired from at least one fully automatic weapon, sending people fleeing the busy entertainment district in panic.

According to police, among the weapons fired was a pistol with a Glock switch.

Mayor Randall Woodfin called on state lawmakers to ban Glock switches.
