Team Cup goes to SSV Ulm

Team Cup goes to SSV Ulm

This weekend, things are going to get lively in Rosenfeld and Rottweil, with the tennis teams competing in the traditional team cup, which is also known in the scene as the “regional Davis Cup”. Numerous teams answered the call of the organizers, so there were large and strong fields, especially in the men’s and men’s 40’s. For the women, however, only a small tournament is on the program.

Thunderstorm causes move

“It was a complete success again,” says “Mr. Teamcup” Martin Sülzle, looking back. “The participants were enthusiastic, we had great weather – except for the last 20 minutes. A thunderstorm forced us to move to the Balingen Hobbylandhalle. So everything dragged on and the award ceremony was canceled.”

In the men’s competition, the teams will fight for a place in the final in the group phase on Saturday. While SSV Ulm clearly won against Schwendi and Reutlingen in Group 1, things were extremely close in Group 2. Ultimately, Leonberg came out on top, although Konstanz and Zollernalb also had 2:1 victories. “The games won had to be used to decide the outcome,” reports Sülzle.

It’s very tight, so we couldn’t stick to the schedule.

In the final on Sunday, Ulm won against Leonberg and secured victory in the 31st Team Cup. “It was very close,” emphasised the tournament organiser. “There were also two match tiebreaks. That’s why we couldn’t stick to the schedule.” Third place ultimately went to Reutlingen against Konstanz, fifth place went to Schwendi without a fight, as the Zollernalb team did not compete. TV Belsen came seventh.

In the women’s competition, however, only three teams competed, playing in a double round to determine the tournament winner. In the end, Tübingen prevailed and defended the title. Ulm narrowly missed out, with TC Ostdorf taking third place.

Thriller in the men’s 40

In the men’s 40s, last year’s winner Baiersbronn was also able to celebrate again. In the final, they defeated the defending champion Rottweil. The Rottweilers had to pull out all the stops on Saturday in the fight for a place in the final against Markwasen Reutlingen and were only able to win the thriller under floodlights at around 9.30 p.m. The Reutlingen team then won the match for third place against Rottweil 2 on Sunday. In fifth place followed Burladingen, who had previously been rated slightly higher, but who also defeated Spaichingen in the final. Rosenfeld ended up in seventh place.
