Crazy negative record from Kai Havertz in the top match Man City against Arsenal

Crazy negative record from Kai Havertz in the top match Man City against Arsenal

The Premier League top match ended in a 2-2 draw. John Stones equalized for Manchester City in the eighth minute of stoppage time. Before that, Arsenal had to play the entire second half with a man down. Leandro Trossard received a second yellow card for a hard foul just before half-time.

The duel between champions and runners-up was full of fire from the start. Erling Haaland put the Skyblues in the lead after just nine minutes with his tenth goal of the season (on the fifth matchday!). Arsenal newcomer Riccardo Calafiori equalized after 22 minutes before fellow defender Gabriel headed the Gunners into the lead (45th +1 minute). Trossard was sent off and a decimated Arsenal quickly fought back against Man City until the final whistle.

Eight minutes after the clock had passed the 90th minute, Stones scored from close range and saved the Skyblues a point. Before that, national player Kai Havertz had also helped to defend his own goal when they were outnumbered. The attacker, who was deployed in central midfield against City because coach Mikel Arteta’s team is struggling with major injury concerns there, had a whopping 26 tackles. Havertz won 47 percent of his duels on the ground and 56 percent of his aerial duels.

So far, so good. But his passing statistics were completely different. Havertz only made five passes over the entire game. Not a single one found a teammate. This makes the 25-year-old the only outfield player since detailed data collection began in 2003/04 to have been on the field for at least 89 minutes in a Premier League game and not made a single successful pass.

And Havertz was not alone with his negative record. Right-back Jurrien Timber also failed to get a pass to his teammate. Like Havertz, the Dutchman was in the starting eleven and was substituted in the 92nd minute. Timber even tried again: all six of his attempts were bad passes!

Havertz had 25 ball contacts throughout the game, Timber 23 actions with the ball.
