Siegemund jumps 30 places

Laura Siegemund has climbed 30 places in the world rankings thanks to her participation in the final of the WTA tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand. The 36-year-old from Metzingen is now ranked 69th and is the German number one ahead of Jule Niemeier (Dortmund/83rd) and Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau/85th). The trio has also been nominated for the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup in Malaga (13th to 20th November).

Siegemund narrowly missed out on her third singles title on the professional tour in Thailand, losing in the final on Sunday to Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova 4:6, 4:6. Her best world ranking was 27th in August 2016, and she is currently ranked 12th in doubles.

There were hardly any changes in the men’s rankings this week, with the top players battling for prestige and prize money at the Laver Cup in Berlin, not for points. Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) remains in second place, well ahead of industry leader Jannik Sinner from Italy. The German number two is Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) in 38th place, while Yannick Hanfmann improved to 82nd place.
