Telegram founder Pavel Durov faces 12 serious charges in France after he was arrested at Le Bourget airport on the outskirts of Paris. The arrest took place on August 24 as part of a comprehensive judicial investigation by the Paris public prosecutor’s office, in particular its cybercrime unit, JUNALCO.

The investigation began in early July 2024 and focuses on several allegations against Durov, mainly related to his role in monitoring the Telegram platform.

According to a file, the judicial investigation against Telegram founder Pavel Durov includes 12 criminal charges. The investigation was launched on July 8, 2024, following a preliminary investigation by JUNALCO.

The charges include complicity in facilitating illegal activities through the Telegram platform, including using the platform as a webmaster to facilitate organized crime transactions, refusing to provide important information to law enforcement, and complicity in the possession and distribution of child pornography.

Other charges include involvement in drug trafficking and offering cryptology services without the required certification.

The 12 counts also include laundering proceeds of criminal activity, providing unauthorized cryptographic tools, and importing cryptographic tools without proper declaration with Telegram under his direction.
