WTC points table: World Test Championship standings updated after Sri Lanka’s win over New Zealand | SL vs NZ

Sri Lanka beat New Zealand in a thrilling Test in Galle to jump to third place in the 2023-25 ​​World Test Championship table – here is the updated WTC table after the first SL vs NZ Test.

Sri Lanka recorded a memorable win over New Zealand by 63 runs on Monday. The hosts chose to bat first and scored 305 runs in the first innings but then narrowly conceded a lead of 35 runs. They scored 309 runs in the second innings with Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews all scoring fifties.

New Zealand had set a target of 274 to take a series lead but struggled at 96-6. Rachin Ravindra scored a fine 92 to keep one end up despite wickets falling at the other end. The Black Caps had to chase down the remaining runs (68) with two wickets in hand on Monday morning but Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed Ravindra and William O Rourke in 2.1 overs to give Sri Lanka a 63-run win.

WTC points table: Sri Lanka overtakes New Zealand and moves up to third place

Following the win, Sri Lanka’s points percentage (PCT) has risen to 50 with 48 points from eight Tests. They have won four matches and lost as many in the ongoing World Test Championship and are currently behind India and Australia in the table. Before the Test match, they were in fourth place after Bangladesh suffered a defeat to India in Chennai and have now moved up one place to third.

New Zealand, on the other hand, dropped one place to fourth and has a PCT of 42.85. They have won three of their seven Tests in the current WTC and lost four.

The next game in the series will be played on September 26 at the same venue.
