Marc Andre ter Stegen was most likely seriously injured in the league match against Villareal without any external influence. Towards the end of the first half, the goalkeeper landed on his right leg after intercepting a ball and immediately collapsed with a face contorted in pain. He then had to be taken off the field in a tragedy. Coach Flick gave an initial assessment at the press conference after the match: “We are very happy about the victory, but in truth sad because I believe that it is a serious injury.”

There is currently a possibility of a tear in the patellar tendon in the right knee. This would mean an absence of around eight months. This would mean the end of the season for ter Stegen with the Catalans.
